By now ya'll can tell I LOVE me a good lippie! High end, YES. Drugstore, YES. Homemade, YES. I live for a great lipstick, so you can understand my excitement when I saw these NEW matte lipsticks from NYX. I mean, the Soft Matte Lip Creams were AMAZING, so these have got to be just as great, right? WRONG! They unimpressed me so much that I've had them for almost a month now, and am just getting around to even writing about them. I know they are a matte lipstick, but the majority of the colors wear VERY dry on your lips. The real and only wow factor (for me) is that you can pretty much count on full color coverage in one swipe. I ordered mine from BeautyJoint, which processed my order on monday and had them on my doorstep by tuesday afternoon!!! Great service, but even their site displayed the colors slightly off from what you truly get. Take a look at the photo below for a more realistic swatch of what you'll be getting when you order (FYI- Butter, Bloody Mary & Audrey are mislabeled on the chart). I'll also be posting swatches of the colors I bought for reference this week.
For example, I ordered Perfect Red, but it came looking more like Pure Red. But it's not a real FAIL for me, as they do have some great colors and the wear time is pretty much all day, even with eating and drinking. With the exception of a couple colors I purchased, like SIERRA, PERFECT RED and STRAWBERRY DAIQUIRI, I'll more than likely be pairing them with a good lipbalm, liner and clear gloss to be able to wear them and not feel like my lips are going to crackle and fall off.
Has anyone else tried these lipsticks out yet? Did you have the same issue with ULTRA dry lips like I did?
UPDATE: Here are the swatches!
Thanks for the review! I just saw these on NYX facebook and was wondering about these! Looking forward to the swatches!
ReplyDeleteI love soft matte lip cream too! Thanks for the review, I want to buy these matte lipsticks but not that sure about the texture.
ReplyDelete@ Carryn- Honestly, I was not too crazy about them. While the range of colors are GREAT I don't care for the formula. You have to really exfoliate AND bathe your lips in balm before you apply. I wish they offered the same colors but in their Matte Cream instead.
ReplyDeleteThe swatches look great, just sux that the formula is so drying. Thanks for the review! I just might pass on these.
ReplyDelete@Meme- Yeah, it's a shame really. But since I have them, I'm going to just apply them over my Rosebud salve and top with a gloss and some silica powder to make them matte again WITHOUT the drying effect.
ReplyDeleteAhhh, this is such bad news. I've been dying to try them out.. was actually planning on either seeing if they had them at Ulta tomorrow or placing an order online. I have serious issues with drying so I'm going to avoid these completely and just keep building my collection of matte lip creams. Thanks for the review! You just saved me a coupla bucks!
ReplyDeleteHi I appreciate the swatches, can u please label them as I am unable to make out which one is which (hand swatches). Thanks for the review!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the swatches i really love your blog, I use carmax on my lips pryer to applying any lipsticks that dry my lips out and it helps to be able to use the lipsticks and they stay on as well. Most CVS or Walgreens has a pack of 3 carmex in tubes for $2.47 or Walmart has them as well and single tubes for $1.00.Since you posted this how well has things gone for you with them??
ReplyDelete@EsteeDarla- I still don't really care for them, but I do use Sierra and Perfect Red often... for some reason they are not as drying ans patchy when applied.
ReplyDeleteWhich color is that coral-y pink in the middle of the second set of swatches?
ReplyDeleteThe lighter of the two is called Strawberry Daquiri, but if you are referring to the darker of the two, then that one is Indie Flick. They are both two of my go to colors, regardless of what I'm wearing on my face or outfit, for summer. Just be sure to apply them over moisturized lips since they are drying.
