Introducing HOMEMINT!

I swear there has got to be about a buzzillion of these "MINT" sites popping up lately, but I'm actually pretty darn excited about the new home decor line HOMEMINT! I don't know about you, but I'm absolutely OBSESSED with homegoods and knickknacks... so muort for it in mind... there's nothing wrong with that, right? LOL But I will admit that my penguin collection is getting a bit out of hand... is there a support group for that?

Anyways, back to the topic at hand... HOMEMINT is the result of  collaboration between interior designer Estee Stanley and Justin Timberlake that surely looks to be unique and promising. To kick off the launch on May 9th, they are currently hosting a contest with the grand prize being a trip to meet Justin and Estee (airfare and hotel incl.), a design consulation, and a $10K shopping spree on HOMEMINT.  Plus, 5 runners up will get an art print curated by Justin and Estee. If you're interested in learning/seeing more about the newest addition to the "MINT" brand go here.

Are you as excited as I am for this new venture? Probably not, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on the "MINT" sites... anyone joined or made any worthwhile purchases?

Guest Blogger: Jackie Clark

Good morning!!! Today I have a very special post for you all. I was recently contacted by a lovely woman by the name of Jackie, who wanted to share a bit of insight with us all about Mesothelioma and the powerful, and positive effects a bit of makeup can have when facing an illness. I can remember watching my own grandmother blossom when I would make her up while she was fighting her battle with cancer, and can personally attest to how important it is to find a way to still feel desirable, womanly and simply YOURSELF when you're dog tired and your body seems to be failing you. It truly is amazing how something as simple as a little pop of color can do wonders for the mood. So with great pride, and without further ado, I give to you my first guest blog post!

Putting On Your Beautiful Face
By: Jackie Clark

When women talk about makeup, they sometimes speak of it as putting on their face. At first blush, this notion seems cute and a bit silly. But when you think about it, it can be an incredibly true notion. We have the faces that we are born with, and then we have the enhancements that makeup can give us. While we weren’t born with a perfectly clear complexion, cherry red lips or malachite-green eyelids, we can surely give ourselves these things. In many ways, makeup is about exerting our power over the rest of the world, and you will find that it is very effective when you need a pick me up.

It is a well-known truth that women live stressful lives, and that a life altering event can occur when we least expect it. For example, a woman can be completely healthy one day, and in the next learn she has been diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer caused from asbestos exposure. When these things happen, women can be left feeling tired, depleted and unsure of how to push forth during or after a chemotherapy or radiation treatments. The thought of looking beautiful with a touch of color to her cheeks is the last thing on her mind. However, if life has recently knocked you for a loop, you can do wonders for your esteem and mood by simply putting your game face on. The face that you paint on is just as much yours as the face that you were born with is. So, what options are open to you?

If you want to release your inner strength and look as though you own the world, start with the eyes. A dark line drawn directly above and below your eyelids can make a huge difference to how sultry and deep your gaze is. A little bit of mascara can thicken your lashes and makes your eyes look larger and more vibrant, while a simple sweep of mushroom eyeshadow can give you a fantastically mysterious look. If you are someone who is inclined to color; such as jewel tones, consider giving yourself a tempestuous three-layer, blended color look. Imitate the peacock and use blue, green and purple, or create a feline tiger look with a layer of bright orange sandwiched between two layers of black.

Don’t forget to work with your lips as well. If you want to make sure that you stay professional, a small amount of tinted lip gloss adds the perfect look for your ensemble. On the other hand, if you want a more vampy night time look, choose a deep red that absolutely looks artificial and put a high gloss on top if it. This is perfect if you love a more vintage look, and if you are very bold, consider a purple or even a deep dark blue.

When you do your makeup, remember that there are plenty of tutorials online to help you. From the woman who never learned to do makeup properly and is worried that the end results will look clownish or silly, to the professionally trained makeup artist, the truth of the matter is that everyone had to start from somewhere. A little bit of practice can go a long way towards helping you get the look that you are after. Take a moment to really figure out what you want to do, and then take the time to learn how to do it. While this may not be easy, all you need to do is to be patient with yourself in order to achieve great results.

If you are interested in finding your own strength and realizing how strong and beautiful you really are despite your prognosis, makeup is a wonderful way to teach you how to rebuild your confidence. Different people use different tools, and if you find that your tool is makeup and how well you can put it on, by all means use it as best you can. Choose the colors that make you feel powerful and gorgeous and remember that a small amount of effort can change the way that you think about yourself and your obstacles at hand.

LOTD: MAC Korean Candy

Korean Candy is Spring to me! This is my 1st sheen supreme lipstick from MAC and I absolutely love how moisturizing, vibrant and opaque it is right from the tube. I've had it for a few months now, and it's ALWAYS in my bag since it pretty much goes with anything. It applies evenly and swatches a nice, intense coral, and can be sheered out a bit, as can be seen in the picture below.  Hope you all had a great weekend!

Ebay Haul!

Hey you guys! I'll start off by saying that I am an ebay junkie; whoever invented it is my HERO! I absolutely LOVE it... I probably average about 2-3 purchases a week. That being said, I pretty much stick to items within the USA, but I'd been looking at this particular ring for (no lie)  about 9 months!

It has been sitting in my items watched page for 9 months, going on and off sale... but I was just kind of wary about the purchase. Would it be as pretty when it gets here? How long is is really going to take to arrive? Are they just gonna take my money and send me a pen? LOL I mean all sorts of worse case scenarios were fighting for dominance in my head. But while dropping in on the amazing WitchHazel's blog, my jaw dropped, because lo and behold.... SHE BOUGHT THE RING! And anyone who has been to her blog can verify, she is the QUEEN of cutesy ebay purchases. So naturally, I decided stop being so damn scary and make the purchase, and 10 days later... it's here! The transaction was so smooth, the price and presentation was absolutely GREAT and tracking was provided by the shipper, which really put my mind at ease. And I am floored by how beautiful it is.... so THANK YOU WitchHazel for forcing my hand... you've opened a whole new beast up now LMAO

So what do you guys think of my long awaited purchase? Has anyone bought anything from overseas on Ebay?

NYX: The Crimson Amulet Collection

While in Ulta the other day, I saw this palette and thought it was too nice to pass up.  I didn't swatch any shadows in store, and I had absolutely NO clue what Dark Shadows was at the time, but it had a nice assortment of shadows... and I am a sucker for full face palettes so in my basket it went! It retails for about $24, which isn't bad considering you get 24 shadows, 5 Blushers, an Illuminator, 4 lip glosses, a HD shadow primer and a liquid liner all in an artfully designed palette.

The blushes all have very nice pigmentation, but I was kind of disappointed when it came to the shadows. I only swatched the darker half of the shadows to give you guys a basic idea of what I'm talking about. The deeper hues have decent pigmentation, while most of the lighter colors take an absurd amount of building on darker skin to show up as more than a simple wash of color/glitter. I might try to use them with a pure white base or the primer included instead of a fleshtone base to see if that will help any.

(1st Part of Palette: Shadows and a Mirror)

 (2nd Half of Palette)

(Swatches of Dark Shadows- This was after some building of the lighter shades)

(2nd half of palette: Blushes, Primer, Liner, Illuminator, Glosses)

Overall, with a great base for the shadows and for only $24, it's certainly worth a try. I personally am in love with the artwork and details of the palette... I'm such a Helena Bonham Carter/ Tim Burton fan! When I opened my palette I had to google "Dark Shadows" to see what in the world this movie was about... and now May can't come fast enough (I'm sooooo in the theaters for this one)!!!

Random thought: How did we survive in this world before Google? LOL

If you all want a full palette swatch let me know! So now that you've read my initial review, what are you thoughts: grab or pass?
